Upper School History

For Cornelia Alden, joining Pine Cobble School as the Upper School history teacher back in 2001 in fact meant returning to Pine Cobble, where she’d been a student for eleven years of her youth, from Beginners class (with fellow student Beth Callahan, today the Beginners teacher) through ninth grade. “I love Pine Cobble,” she says, “from the sense of community to knitting with students as part of an elective.” Her decision to pursue a teaching career had much to do with those early years of her education, from where she went on to earn a BA in history from Williams College and, later, an MEd from the University of Washington. She also worked for a time as a river guide in Idaho.

Cornelia lives in Williamstown with her family: David and their son, Ellis, a kindergartener at Pine Cobble as of the 2023–24 school year, as well as two dogs and a cat. Her hobbies include baking, knitting, hiking, skiing, and enjoying the great outdoors.
