Now accepting applications for 2013-14 Fellow

Pine Cobble School is pleased to announce the fourth year of a Fellow position; this position has become an integral part of students’ Pine Cobble experience, and is a powerful investment in our nation’s future teachers. Recently, the 2012-13 Fellow, Patrick Aquino, along with the 2011-12 Fellows, Corey Baldwin and Sarah Dewey, spoke to college students about the position. Below is information about the position, as well as application and contact information.

The Fellow at Pine Cobble School

Background: Pine Cobble School began its Fellow program in the fall of 2010 as a commitment to the development of new teachers. Several of our Fellows have gone on to be full-time teachers at Pine Cobble.

Description: The Fellow will be mentored by a veteran faculty member. The Fellow will shadow the veteran teacher while having classes/courses of his/her own to teach. The details of the role will be developed based on the qualifications of the Fellow and the needs of the school in the year of the fellowship. There will be ample amount of time on a weekly basis for the mentor to meet with the Fellow and discuss the week’s classes, events, etc.

The Fellow will also be asked to do a variety of “out of classroom” duties from coaching, to helping with drama productions, to coordinating volunteers for the year, among other duties as assigned. These duties, once again, will depend on the needs of the school and the talents of the hired fellow.

The Fellow appointment is for one year, with the possibility to petition for a second year of the fellowship. A stipend of $10,000 is provided along with housing on the Pine Cobble campus (with all utilities covered by the school).

Selection Process: The current Fellows will be part of the interview and selection process along with the Head of School. Once selected, the Fellow and the mentor will communicate over the summer about the next year’s teaching duties, allowing the Fellow ample time to prepare for the year ahead.

Application Requirements: The deadline for the fellowship is April 1. To apply, please submit the following:

  1. Statement of interest and teaching philosophy
  2. Unofficial transcript
  3. Teaching resume
  4. Three letters of recommendation

Submit all of the above to Head of School – Sue Wells – s.wells@pinecobble.org. Please put in the subject line Fellowship application.
