At Pine Cobble, our athletics and physical education (PE) program reflects the understanding that movement, physical activity,
and play is essential for every student at every developmental stage. PE supports healthy growth, builds lifelong habits of movement, and promotes overall well-being. Through active play and exercise, students develop coordination, strength,
confidence, and teamwork skills. Physical activity also helps manage stress, improve focus, and foster care for both body and mind.
CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTS
The program is designed to foster growth in age-appropriate ways across the four divisions. In the Early Childhood program, Beginners and PreKindergartners develop foundational movement skills through playful, game-based activities that support both physical and cognitive growth. When students move to the Lower School in Kindergarten, they engage in cooperative athletic challenges that build spatial awareness, teamwork, confidence, and body control.
These elements are emphasized and developed throughout grades 1-4. In the Middle School, fifth- and sixth-graders learn and practice field-based sports to strengthen coordination, resilience, and determination as they prepare for competitive play. Middle Schoolers join Pine Cobble’s competitive traveling teams during the fall and spring seasons. Pine Cobble offers soccer in the fall and ultimate frisbee is spring and play local school in the surrounding areas.
WINTER SPORTS PROGRAM
Winter Sports are a beloved Pine Cobble tradition, giving students the chance to learn beyond the classroom, taking risks, building new skills, and embracing the season. For seven weeks each winter, all students spend Fridays enjoying outdoor activities and making the most of our beautiful surroundings. As part of the Winter Sports program, our youngest learners in Beginners and PreK enjoy a Movement and Dance class. Kindergartners participate in ice skating at nearby Williams College, and students in grades 1-8 rotate between ice staking, cross- country skiing at Prospect Mountain, and downhill skiing or snowboarding at Jiminy Peak.
