7. Admissions Screening Process

At Pine Cobble School, we are committed to ensuring that each student has the opportunity to thrive in our learning environment.

As part of our admissions process, all students applying to Grades 1–8 are required to take academic screeners—formal assessments designed to help us understand each child’s current academic profile. Families are also asked to sign release forms so that school records and teacher recommendations can be sent to Pine Cobble directly from the child’s current school.

In addition to these academic screeners, the screening process may include:

  • Informal assessments
  • Review of psychoeducational testing, IEPs, and 504 Plans
  • Observations
  •  Conversations with current or former educators

These tools help us understand how a student learns and determine whether our available programs and resources align with a student’s needs. Prospective students for Grades 1–8 will complete any applicable screeners on the day of their classroom visit.

Support & Services Limitations

Within a context calling for academic excellence, Pine Cobble School seeks ways to help students meet those standards as they prepare for high school. Pine Cobble School provides academic support services for students with documented learning differences. The Dean of Academics and the Academic Support Specialist will develop a Student Learning Plan for students who have a documented learning disability and for whom accommodations are required.  Students must be able to participate and make progress in all aspects of the academic programing at Pine Cobble School.

Screening results are shared only internally with the admissions team and relevant educators. They are treated confidentially and are not disclosed outside the school.

8.  Communication of Decision

Admissions Decisions are made within two phases of our admission cycle:

PHASE 1:  Applications completed by April 10, 2026 will be reviewed first with enrollment decisions communicated by May 15, 2026.  For families seeking financial assistance, complete and submit the Clarity Tuition application by April 10, 2026.

PHASE 2:  Applications completed after April 10th and over the course of the summer months will be evaluated on a rolling basis.  Please understand that most, if not all, of our financial assistance funds available may already be allocated to accepted families.  Please contact the admission office directly to determine if you should complete the Clarity Tuition financial aid application for admission.

Our Commitment to Equity and Inclusion

We approach this process with care, equity, and the understanding that students come from a wide range of educational backgrounds. Screenings are not used to rank students or penalize those with limited access to prior resources. Instead, they:

  • Help us understand each child’s strengths and needs
  • Allow us to make informed, student-centered decisions
  • Ensure that Pine Cobble is the right environment to nurture a student’s growth, development and success
